Damn, July already!

Hello wonderful readers and followers. I haven't posted anything since the latter part of June, so I thought I would check in and let you know that I am still alive and breathing. My writing journey has been a bit of a go-no-go over the last few months. As many of you know, I lost my birth mother at the end of March this year. I took it surprisingly harder than I would have imagined. For most of April, I  marathon read my way through the days to keep from dealing with and suffocating my emotions. Luckily some amazing authors wrote equally fabulous alien sci-fi stories to truly take me out of this world. Authors Honey Phillips, Luna  Kingsley, Presley Hall, and Madison Savage. Here are just a few: In other news on my writing progress Beef Witch You has a 3500-word first chapter. I just finished writing a second chapter yesterday, another 3500 words.  Writing each chapter exactly 3500 words even after editing is my little personal side challenge. Why 3500 words? I...

What happened to Ginnie?

THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY What happened to Ginnie... After I wrote part three, intending it to be a short story for the Kissing in the Rain Collection, I got stuck. Like bogged down, I had no idea which way I was going with the story. I did not have a plan; I am a pantser. Yeah, I know you pro writers are laughing, but this is what happened to Ginnie. I couldn't make my initial thought come together. Then I read something online about things authors hate to read. High and several times on the list was about cheating husbands and initially, I was considering that. Even though I honestly don't like that either. I have trouble watching movies and series about it. I struggled through season 1 of Dr. Foster on Netflix and still haven't brought myself to finish season 2. The writing is great, it is just one of those things. So like I was saying I was stuck. Like tires in the mud. The story came to a screeching halt. I was so stuck I had run out of ideas of how to move the stor...

Kissing in the Rain: Ginnie part 3

Image
Gwendolyn  Part 3 2 weeks later... Dr. Phan stood at her large picturesque window as Ginnie sat taking notes. Moments later Dr Phan went to sit behind her desk. She picked up the phone and called the receptionist's desk. "Please have Jonathan come to my office. " She said before hanging up. A soft knock came a few moments later as Ginnie gathered her purse and briefcase.  She was just standing as he entered the office. "Come on in Jonathan.  This is Gwendolyn Parkes, she will be joining our team. She will be working with your team as a liason for us non tech people while her primary function  will be working with our patients as they come into the facility as an intake specialist.  Can you please show her around the facility?" "Sure boss! Anything to get out of real work!" He said jokingly "Right this way Miss ..." "Parkes" Ginnie answered "Gwendolyn Parkes" she extended her hand. He shook her hand firmly. " Jonatha...

Kissing in the Rain: Ginnie part 2

Ginnie  Part 2 "Miss Parkes, you can go in now!" The receptionist's megawatt smile greeted Gwendolyn as she passed the high marble desk. " Dr. Phan will be right in to see you. Please make yourself comfortable." Ginnie could tell by the receptionist's demeanor that she actually liked her job. Ginnie just hoped that she was making the right decision as the receptionist stepped out of the room pulling the door closed behind her. Smoothing her pencil skirt for the 50th time,  she looked down at the brochure that was now crumpled from her nervousness.  The door opened moments later and a smartly dressed women bustled into the room hanging her lab coat on a hook and positioning herself behind the beautiful oak and glass desk. Pressing a button on her desk the blinds opened behind her exposing a floor to ceiling window. Through the window Ginnie could see the beautifully manicured lawn. A gorgeous expanse of grass led down to a crystal blue lake. If she had a be...

Kissing in the Rain: Ginnie part 1

Image
This story was originally going to be part of the Kissing in the Rain short story collection but ended up being removed and is its own novel under a different name. Since you have stuck with me this long, you can read the first chapter in its entirety on my website venisnytes.com! Ginger (Snap) Part 1 (first draft) ************** After finishing her set, Velvet Kitty left the stage, glistening with sweat and glitter. She entered the shared dressing room area and walked up behind GingerSnap in her dressing cubicle. For no reason at all, except to amuse herself, she decided to yank GingerSnap's ponytail and laugh. "Stop pulling my hair, you bitch!" Ginger screamed as she tried to push Velvet off of her. Ginger was so sick of these triflin' hoes. Someone was always up on her, trying to fight her or steal her stuff. Why was she still going through this? She had enough money to relocate, to bounce from this fray of sex and sin. No matter how nice and upscale it was. At t...

The story formally known as The Ties that Bind

Image
THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY Hello Readers,  I hope that you have enjoyed the first 10 parts of the story, formally known as  The Ties that Bind .  I had an excellent time writing, imagining, and making up this story when I first started working on it from September through December 2015.  Who could have imagined that in 2020 we would be hit worldwide with a virus? I could not really get back into writing the story last year, so I just did some reworking of it and pretty much tore it apart and worked on it some offline.  I created a new book cover for it as part of the many changes. Much of what you read will still be kept, but there is quite a bit of new content as well. The story will be paced slower. I promise to keep the bedroom scenes. Writing when emotional is dangerous because after having a bad day ....well, let's just say one of the characters is lying in a pool of blood in the current rewrite.  Not dead but dying. I have not decided what to d...
