  UNNAMED (first draft) SHE She knew that she should not be here touching Cayleb.  She couldn't help herself. Ever since his conscientiousness entered her planet she had been intrigued. He had woken her from a self-imposed slumber that she had taken due to absolute boredom. She could literally manage the planet in its present state in her sleep. But now that there are more creatures here she has found that she enjoys the distraction of their lives. So many stories and customs and thoughts. But Cayleb is special. He calls to her from deep within his mind even when he is not aware and it becomes harder to deny him. She never should have led him to the entrance to her lair. But it is the only place that she can speak with him in private and gaze upon him without distraction. It had taken her many cycles to create the corridors after choosing just the right place to build the cavern.   UNNAMED   (first draft) FESTIVAL Festival cont. The air  filled with the beating of massive wings as the Tyto Elders flew down  to the platform, assembled on the right side of the stage and started calling the names. Ever the efficient and no nonsense creatures that they were. Wrathe and Phoenix were near the top of the list, as expected. 35 names were called this year. 5 more than last year. Cayleb fidgeted with his tail impatiently and looked expectantly at his mother as he waited for his name to be called. They were already on the 27th name and he had yet to be called. Did he not make the selection? He understood that he could not be just added to the list because of his birthright or whom his parents were,  but he was sure he would be called up this cycle on his merit alone. His mother said as he entered the hall where she was checking the preparations for today's festivities. "I would not miss such an important event mother!" He said  as he placed his forehead tenderly on hers. "What can I do to help you?" "Nothing. Just go and get yourself ready. Hurry Cayleb. We will be leaving shortly. Your covering is in your quarters" The festival was a lively raucous event. Food and drink flowed on every table. Laughter and music filled the air. His family sat at the center  of the festivities accessible to all, watching and participating in the events. Cayleb was anxious. Soon would come the announcements for tomorrow.   UNNAMED (first draft) CAYLEB Today was the last day of Solstice 1. The first of the three suns had successfully made the orbit to the planet's dark side without a catastrophic flare. There was a small festival planned for later tonight so that they could thank the Universe for sparing their new home. With the first sun on the opposite side of the planet, a rare delicacy would now bloom, and there would be a race to harvest it and bring back the delicious fruit. Cayleb's mouth watered at the thought. His family finished their supply earlier this year due to the extra guests that had stopped by to have their offspring blessed. This cycle was bountiful. His people had flourished in this new environment. Not one of his people would ever take their new homeland for granted. They had learned a valuable lesson, one taught in bloodshed and destruction.
